High order asymptotics for wave propagation across thin periodic interfaces
This work deals with the scattering of acoustic waves by a thin ring that contains many regularly-spaced heterogeneities. We provide and justify a complete description of the solution with respect to the period and the thickness of the heterogeneities. Our approach mixes matched asymptotic expansions and homogenization theory.
متن کاملWave propagation in periodic networks of thin fibers
We will discuss a one-dimensional approximation for the problem of wave propagation in networks of thin fibers. The main objective here is to describe the boundary (gluing) conditions at branching points of the limiting one-dimensional graph. The results will be applied to Mach-Zehnder interferometers on chips and to periodic chains of the interferometers. The latter allows us to find parameter...
متن کاملWave propagation in highly inhomogeneous thin films : exactly solvable models
We present an exact treatment of wave propagation in some inhomogeneous thin films with highly spacedependent dielectric constant. It is based on a space transformation which replaces the physical space by the optical path. In the new space, the dispersion equation is that of a normal progressive wave. We will show that the dispersion properties of such films are plasmaor waveguide-like, the ch...
متن کاملWave Propagation Across Muddy Seafloors
The primary objective was to develop field-verified models for the evolution of surfacegravity waves propagating over a muddy seafloor, allowing more skillful predictions of wave fields on continental shelves, and enabling the estimation of characteristics of the seafloor from wave observations. The approach was to investigate empirical and theoretical expressions for mud-induced damping by com...
متن کاملWave propagation in two-dimensional periodic lattices.
Plane wave propagation in infinite two-dimensional periodic lattices is investigated using Floquet-Bloch principles. Frequency bandgaps and spatial filtering phenomena are examined in four representative planar lattice topologies: hexagonal honeycomb, Kagomé lattice, triangular honeycomb, and the square honeycomb. These topologies exhibit dramatic differences in their long-wavelength deformatio...
